How to use the Small Text Generator
- Type your text.
- Compare small caps, superscript and subscript.
- Read the note on letters that stay normal size.
- Copy the style you want.
Features and benefits
- Small caps, superscript and subscript.
- Digits and + - = ( ) in superscript and subscript.
- Shows the share of characters that changed for each style.
- Never swaps in look-alikes that would read as different letters.
Examples
Small caps
- Input
- tiny text
- Result
- ᴛɪɴʏ ᴛᴇxᴛ (Unicode has no small-caps x, so x stays normal).
Partial subscript
- Input
- bog
- Result
- bₒg: only "o" has a subscript form, so the note says 33% of characters changed.
Limits and restrictions
- Styled letters are not a real font. Each letter is swapped for a different Unicode character that looks similar, which is why the style survives copy and paste. Screen readers may read these characters one by one or skip them, in-app search may not find a styled word, and devices without the right font show empty boxes.
- Unicode has no small-caps "x", no superscript "q" and only about half the alphabet in subscript.
- Capital letters in subscript use the lower-case subscript form where one exists.
Tips and best practices
- Use superscript for footnote markers like ¹ ² ³.
- Small caps work well for short taglines and signatures.
- Check the coverage note before using subscript for words.
- For real formulas, use a math editor instead.
Frequently asked questions
Why are some letters not small?
Unicode only includes some small letters. We keep the rest as typed instead of using look-alikes that would read wrongly.
Can I write math with this?
For simple powers like x² it works. For real equations, use a math editor.
Does small text count as fewer characters?
No. Each small letter is still one character.
What is the difference between small caps and superscript?
Small caps are capital-shaped letters at lower-case height. Superscript letters are tiny and raised.
Will small text show on every phone?
Most modern phones show it. Some older devices may show boxes for rarer characters.
