    Limits and restrictions

    • Styled letters are not a real font. Each letter is swapped for a different Unicode character that looks similar, which is why the style survives copy and paste. Screen readers may read these characters one by one or skip them, in-app search may not find a styled word, and devices without the right font show empty boxes.
    • Rarer styles, such as dark bubbles, are in the Fancy Text Generator.
    • Instagram may limit special characters in usernames; styled text is best for display names, bios and captions.

    Tips and best practices

    • Style one or two words, not the whole bio.
    • Keep your username and key words plain so people can find you in search.
    • Check the result on both iPhone and Android if you can; font support differs.
    • Bold sans usually matches the app's look best.

    Frequently asked questions

Does Instagram have its own fonts?

Instagram offers fonts in Stories and some text tools, but not in bios or captions. Unicode styles are a workaround.

Will people find me if my name is styled?

Search may not match styled letters. Keep your username plain and style only part of your display name.

Why do some letters stay plain?

Unicode does not have a styled version of every character, such as accented letters. Those are kept as typed.

Do styled letters work in Stories and comments?

Usually yes, because they are text characters. Very old devices may show boxes.

Are these fonts free to use?

Yes. They are standard Unicode characters, not font files.
