    Examples

    A three-line shop bio

    Input
Coffee roaster in Austin ☕ ⏎
    Free shipping over $40 ⏎
    shop.example.com
    Result
66 characters on 3 lines, 1 emoji and 1 web address, leaving 84 characters to spare. The tool notes the web address will not be clickable.

    Limits and restrictions

    • The 150-character limit is widely reported and enforced in the app, but we could not verify it on an official Instagram help page.
    • The preview is approximate; fonts and wrapping differ between devices and app versions.
    • Some emoji may count as two characters in the app.

    Tips and best practices

    • Lead with what you do and who it is for, in plain words people might search.
    • Use line breaks to separate ideas, but keep it to about 3 to 5 short lines.
    • Put clickable links in the Links field of your profile, not in the bio text.
    • Keep your name searchable: style only a small part with Unicode fonts, if at all.

    Frequently asked questions

Can I put a link in my bio text?

You can type one, but it is usually not clickable. Instagram has a separate Links field for clickable links.

Do line breaks count toward 150?

Yes. Each line break counts as one character.

Can I use fancy fonts in my bio?

Yes, with care. Styled Unicode letters can be hard for screen readers and search. See the Instagram Font Generator for details.

Does the display name count toward the bio?

No. The name is shown in the preview only; it is not counted with the bio.

Why does the preview look different on my phone?

Every device uses its own fonts and widths, so line wrapping can differ. Use the preview as a guide.
