How to use the YouTube Title Checker

    1. Type your title.
    2. Check the counter against 100 characters.
    3. Look at the desktop and mobile previews.
    4. Fix anything the checks point out, then copy the title.

    Features and benefits

    • Counts characters as people see them, plus UTF-16 units and words.
    • Checks for angle brackets, leading or trailing spaces, double spaces, mostly capital letters, repeated !!! or ??? and hashtags.
    • Desktop and mobile previews that show two lines, like many layouts.
    • No made-up "score"; just clear checks.

    Examples

    A clear title

    Input
How I edit a vlog in 10 minutes (beginner workflow)
    Result
51 characters, within the limit, with no problems found.

    A title with problems

    Input
    WATCH THIS NOW!!! <wow>
    Result
Four checks fail: angle brackets, extra spaces at the start and end, mostly capitals and "!!!".

    Limits and restrictions

    • YouTube's help center states a 100-character title limit and says titles cannot include invalid characters. Angle brackets (< and >) are commonly rejected.
    • Previews are approximate; YouTube changes layouts and shortens titles differently by device.
    • The capitals check only runs on titles with at least 8 letters.

    Tips and best practices

    • Put the main topic in the first 40 to 50 characters so it shows everywhere.
    • Write titles that match what the video delivers.
    • Use capitals for one or two key words at most.
    • Save hashtags for the description.

    Frequently asked questions

Do emoji count toward the 100-character limit?

Yes. The tool shows characters as people see them and UTF-16 units, because some systems count emoji as two.

Should I put hashtags in my title?

You can, but hashtags in the description are often enough. The tool lists any hashtags it finds in the title.

    Is a longer title better?

Not necessarily. Put the most important words first so they show on every screen size.

    Why are angle brackets flagged?

YouTube says titles cannot include invalid characters, and < and > are commonly rejected.

Does this tool rate my title?

No. It checks length and common problems; it does not predict views or clicks.
