- Pick a size such as 1280 × 720, and a mode: crop, letterbox or fit.
- For crop, move the focus sliders to keep the important part.
- Choose JPG or PNG and the quality, then download.

- Warnings for widths under 640 px, non-16:9 ratios and files over YouTube's 2 MB mobile or 50 MB desktop limits.
- Your image never leaves your device.
Examples
A photo cropped to 16:9
- Input
- 4000 × 3000 photo, crop to 1280 × 720, focus centered
- Result
- Keeps the full width and trims 375 px from the top and bottom of the original.
The same photo, fit inside
- Input
- 4000 × 3000 photo, fit inside 1280 × 720
- Result
- Output is 960 × 720, because fit keeps the whole image without bars.
A vertical clip letterboxed
- Input
- 1080 × 1920 image, letterbox to 1280 × 720
- Result
- The image is scaled to 405 × 720 and centered, with bars on both sides.
Limits and restrictions
- YouTube's help center currently recommends 3840 × 2160 for videos (2160 × 3840 for Shorts), a minimum width of 640 px and a 16:9 ratio. Upload limits: 2 MB on mobile, 50 MB on desktop.
- Images over 25 MB or 50 megapixels are refused to protect your device's memory.
- The tool does not download thumbnails from YouTube videos. Use images you own or have permission to use.
Tips and best practices
- Keep faces and text away from the bottom-right corner, where the video length appears.
- Use JPG at quality 85 to 90 for photos to keep files small.
- Check the result at small size; thumbnails are often viewed tiny.
- If an upscaling warning appears, start from a larger image.
Frequently asked questions
Which size should I choose?
1280 × 720 is widely used and small. YouTube now recommends 3840 × 2160 for the sharpest result; check the file size if you upload from a phone.
Why is my PNG so large?
PNG keeps every pixel exactly. Choose JPG with quality around 85 for a much smaller file.
Does it fix rotated phone photos?
Modern browsers apply the photo's orientation when opening it. If an image still looks rotated, rotate it in your gallery first.
Is my image uploaded?
No. It is drawn on a canvas in your browser and downloaded from there.
What is the difference between crop and letterbox?
Crop fills the frame and trims the edges. Letterbox shows the whole image and adds bars in your chosen color.
Can I make a Shorts thumbnail?
Yes. Choose 1080 × 1920 or 2160 × 3840, both 9:16.
