How to use the Hashtag Counter & Cleaner

    1. Paste your hashtags or caption.
    2. Choose a limit to check against: Instagram (reported 5), YouTube (60) or none.
    3. Turn on any clean-up options you want.
    4. Review the notes on duplicates and problem tags.
    5. Press Copy clean list.

    Features and benefits

    • Counts hashtags found, unique tags, duplicates and problem tags.
    • Removes duplicates without caring about capitals, because hashtags are not case-sensitive.
    • Explains tags that stop at punctuation, such as #beach-life working as #beach.
    • Flags numbers-only tags, which usually do not work.
    • Options: add # to plain words, lowercase, sort A to Z, one tag per line.
    • Shows the clean tags as chips for a quick visual check.

    Examples

    Duplicates and broken tags

    Input
    #travel #Travel #beach-life #2026 #sunset
    Result
    Clean list: #travel #beach #sunset. 5 found, 3 unique, 1 duplicate (#Travel) and 2 problems (#beach-life stops at "-", #2026 is numbers only).

    Turning keywords into hashtags

    Input
summer, beach, travel (with "Add # to plain words")
    Result
    #summer #beach #travel

    Limits and restrictions

    • We do not show "trending" or "best" hashtags; lists like that are guesses unless they come from the platform.
    • Instagram's 5-hashtag limit comes from a December 2025 report, not an official help page we could verify.
    • YouTube states that if a video has more than 60 hashtags, it ignores all of them.
    • Tags in non-Latin scripts are counted, but some platforms handle them differently.

    Tips and best practices

    • Use a few specific tags that describe the post rather than many broad ones.
    • Save a clean set per topic and paste it here to check it before reusing.
    • Remove hyphens and apostrophes inside tags; join words instead, like #beachlife.
    • Add a word to number tags, for example #summer2026 instead of #2026.

    Frequently asked questions

    Are hashtags case-sensitive?

No. #Travel and #travel are the same tag, so the cleaner keeps the first one you typed.

Why is a numbers-only tag flagged?

Tags made only of numbers usually do not link to a hashtag page. Add a word, such as #summer2026.

Can I paste words without the # sign?

Yes. Turn on "Add # to plain words" and each word or comma-separated item becomes a tag.

    Why did #beach-life become #beach?

A hashtag ends at the first space or punctuation mark, so the platform only links the part before the hyphen.

How many hashtags does YouTube allow?

YouTube says that if a video has more than 60 hashtags, all of them are ignored.

Does this tool find popular hashtags?

No. It counts and cleans the tags you give it; it does not suggest tags.
